TJ Writes...

This came in to me over email today:

Donna’s mom [ed: I don't know who this is] was a writer, especially of poetry. As a writer herself she also collected the writings of others, especially those who were not renown, at least at the time she collected them. [Donna’s mom] died in the summer of 06. Donna took all of her writings, both those she wrote and those of others she had saved, with the intent of going through them. Well, after our move, and not yet back to work, she has taken the time to begin to go through all of that. And to her surprise, in the midst of the concern over [TJ] Addington she ran across a poem that he had written when he was 15 years old, and which was published in the "Beacon."

Here is the poem:

Morning Prayer

Lord, I want to ask you,
To be with me through this day.
Keep me from the evil one,
And keep me safe, I pray.

Lord, I know I’ll fall,
Many times today.
But lift me up in love,
And set me on my way.

And when the evening comes,
O Lord, And I review my day.
Help me to be thankful,
That you guided me today.

[TJ] Addington, age 15, February 8th, 1972

TJ later edited the Beacon, now called EFCA Today

Dear TJ and Mary Ann and family,

The faith of a child is what we all need always. And in this critical time, this sweet and precious prayer reminds us that for many years, TJ has belonged to Jesus. The timeless promise of God is so strong as we pray for your healing today, TJ: "Jesus Christ, the same, yesterday, today, and forever." What was good in 1972 is just as true in 2007. Bless the wonderful Name of the Lord Jesus. Praying with you again. Love you,

Dear Mary Ann and family,

Having been awakened since 2:15 AM this Friday morning, I have been praying over and over for TJ. The Scripture says, "Is anything too difficult for the Lord?" (Genesis 18: 14)God specializes in things thought impossible. Our job is to "guard that which is precious which has been entrusted to us." (II Timothy 1: 14) That guarding includes guarding people such as TJ. So again in this early AM, with thusands of others, I join in guarding TJ, claiming the healing that only Jesus can bring. Hoping all of you are resting well. Love to all of you.
