It has been a quiet day for TJ. Temps have stayed below 100.5'. Other VS are good. Levophed for keeping B/P up continues at a low rate. The nurse this evening said the only thing preventing extubation is his decreased mental status. He has been breathing through the ET tube longer than they normally let someone go without doing a tracheostomy. Usually they look at placing a trach 10-14 days after intubation- TJ is on day 18. An Endotrach tube goes through one's mouth and into the lungs. A trach is a more "permanent" tube placement at the base of the throat. Along with the other specifics mentioned, this would be a matter for prayer- if they put a trach in they are likely not to be in a hurry to take it out. (Added layer of complications and he won't be able to talk for at least a week after it is placed.)
It was a beautiful Christmas Day here with snow gently falling most of the day. Chip and I went to some dear friends for a truly gourmet Christmas dinner. Jon hibernated; Tim too.

Dear TJ, Mary Ann, and family,
Christmas 2007 is moments away from coming to an end. We have been praying for you. The Spanish EFC dinner and program was special. We ended a precious day watching again "The Nativity." It added that special touch of reality to what we know was far more real than any movie can touch or express. Yet, the truth of the incarnation is the miracle that makes all our hopes and dreams come alive afresh. This child, both God the Son and the Son of God, grew up, healed the sick, made the lame to walk, cast out demons, made the blind to see, healed lepers, walked on water, and finally went to the cross and tasted death for all of us. He was buried in a borrowed tomb, and three days later, rose, later ascended, and He is coming again.
With Him on our side, we take fresh courage to pray more fervently, to trust His timing, and to walk in hope of His perfect plan in the days ahead. We love you and wish you all tonight a Christmas that will be remembered as a quiet Christmas when God began to raise up TJ to serve Him with valor as never before. Our God is able. We are believing God with you.

Still praying on the other side of the world. If he were awake right now, I'd tell TJ about the Christmas parties in this creative access context, all led by national leaders. One I attended saw 300 in attendance and about 25 people come forward for the invitation. The national leader whose church ran the party is mentored by an RG team member. This is multiplication. I'd tell TJ to encourage him about the value of his work. For now, I'll just write it here to encourage his family. Please tell him when he wakes up!
